The Grammar School at Somersville has a long tradition of providing a positive, nurturing and challenging environment for young learners. This fall, the independent elementary school welcomed its third Head of School since its inception in 1981. Susan J. Superson of Stamford, CT assumed the position of Head of School beginning July 1, 2009.

 

Mrs. Superson is a magna cum laude graduate of Mount Holyoke College and has a Masters in Education with Distinction from American International College. Throughout her long career she has taught various grade levels in the Western, MA area. She was formally an Academic Program Supervisor with the Summer Institute for the Gifted in Stamford, CT, where she designed over 50 new courses for the nationally-renown program for gifted students. It is here that she has proven her administration and leadership abilities directing 10 Academic Deans and 20 Site Directors while ensuring the implementation of the academic program. Her professional background spans the educational spectrum between special needs and gifted students with over 30 years teaching experience. Mrs. Superson is a member of the Kappa Delta Pi Honor Society and a nationally ranked Scrabble player.

 

She is also a Disney Teacher Award winner and a Honeywell Space Educator who attended educators space camp. Her former students have won regional Future City Competitions, National Space Day Competitions, and ranked 10th in National Scrabble Competitions. Mrs Superson has been a presenter at local, state, and National Educational Conferences

Located in Somers, Connecticut, The Grammar School at Somersville is a fully accredited, independent elementary school enrolling students from several surrounding communities in Northern Connecticut and Western Massachusetts.
