Do you know about the mystery associated with the Roanoke colony?
It fascinates us. We make models of the 13 colonies and participate in web quests. We take part in a Liberty Pole Project and the National Geography Bee. Understanding our democratic government and our constitution helps us better appreciate our country and what it means to be a citizen. We use our response journals to record metaphors and hidden meanings in our reading. Poetry and persuasive writing are a focus for us. We have a Breakfast Club and Literacy Circles to discuss novels we have chosen to read. We participate in the World Passport Program and study the complicated topic of economics. In Math, we are busy using protractors, grids, and working with probabilities. We take great pride in learning to manage our time, space, and materials, and to begin to reflect on and self-evaluate our work. Technology is completely integrated into our curriculum with the use of computers and SmartBoards.
