History – Founded in 1981 by Richard F. Denniston, The Grammar School was the only nonsectarian independent elementary school in Western Massachusetts at the time. Mr. Denniston, a former teacher and principal of a public school, founded the school with the idea of a learning community that had a strong vision and purpose. Originating in Wilbraham, Massachusetts, The Grammar School opened its doors serving 17 students. During the past 25 years, the school has seen substantial growth while maintaining its original philosophy of offering a strong academic program, small classes, positive learning environment and a team approach with parents and teachers. Today, The Grammar School at Somersville is established at its new location in picturesque Somers, Connecticut adjacent to neighboring Mill Pond Conservation area.
