Kindergarten and Grade One:

In Kindergarten and Grade One, students are introduced to reading, math, language arts, and social studies in a way that is developmentally appropriate for young learners.  The reading program familiarizes children with concepts and develops comprehension skills through a balance of whole language and phonics methods.  Reading is integrated throughout the curriculum.  Young students learn to communicate effectively through both oral and written language.

The Everyday Math Program from the University of Chicago is the math program used at The Grammar School.  This program introduces young learners to math topics and fosters mathematical thinking by integrating math into other subject areas.  Using hands-on manipulatives, students practice problem solving in real life situations.  Students come to understand math as a part of everyday life.
