Release Monarch Butterflies

Children Say Goodbye as Butterflies Migrate to Mexico

Somers, CT – September, 2007 – Children at The Grammar School at Somersville completed their studies of the life cycle of monarch butterflies by releasing them in time to begin their annual  migration to Mexico. The children also learned that many butterflies from Canada and locations north, have visited The Grammar School butterfly garden in the school yard as a “resting” place during their migration to Mexico.  In celebration of this annual trek, the Kindergarteners dressed like colorful flowers and the 1st and 2nd graders dressed like Monarch butterflies.  The program also included the older students reciting poems they had written in honor of the butterflies.  The entire school community and parents gathered on the front lawn to witness this beautiful site.
