Kindergarten Students Plant a Lesson for Springtime

Somers, CT – October, 2007 –Students in Mrs. Jordan’s Kindergarten class at The Grammar School at Somersville had a special lesson in botany while preparing their outdoor garden for the long winter’s rest.  The students learned the proper way to plant bulbs as well as what surprises would be in store for them come springtime.  This was a wonderful lesson in the cycle of life throughout the seasons.   The activity also helps to reinforce a large part of their curriculum – Caring for Living Things.  On a daily basis, activities to support this part of the curriculum include feeding the classroom pets, feeding the birds outdoors, watering plants in the classroom and in the kindergarten garden, and recycling.  “Helping Mother Earth!” Mrs. Jordan says often.
