Brother and Sister from The Grammar School at Somersville Complete Triathlon
Mighty Kids Triathlon 2007
Somers, CT – September 18, 2007 – The Grammar School at Somersville has a long tradition of providing a positive and nurturing environment where students are empowered to explore their world. On Saturday, September 15th, two Grammar School students did just that! The Mighty Kids Triathlon, held at Rocky Neck State Park in East Lyme, CT had two participants from The Grammar School this year, Michael and Caroline from East Longmeadow, MA. The brother and sister are 2nd and 4th graders respectively. The event consisted of an ocean swim of up to 125 yards, biking up to 3 miles and then running on a trail for up to a half mile. The distances for each component of the race varied depending on the age of the children. Youths aged 6 – 14 were invited to participate in the event.
The brother and sister team entered the race with two goals in mind; to have FUN and to try to finish. However, they always kept in mind that it’s more important to simply do their very best. Caroline and Michael both completed the entire race with transition areas being handled completely on their own! Despite the chilly weather making the ocean swim especially scary this year, they both agreed that they certainly accomplished their goals and were incredibly proud of their achievement.
